A highly stable tool that produces very little vibration because of the excellent compensation provided by the blade rocker and this leads to an enviable smoothness of cut. The FREUD VCE electronics endows the machine with a very good capacity of advance because, even with very thick wood, no loss of power will be noted at any time. FREUD has a wide variety of blades available to cover all applications, cutting metal, all types of wood, aluminium and plastics etc.



Follow very carefully the instructions in this manual, save it and keep close at hand, ready to carry out any inspection of parts that may be necessary. If the machine is used carefully and normal maintenance is carried out, it will work well for a long time. The functions and use of the tool you have bought shall be only those described in this manual. Any other use of the tool is strictly forbidden.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
• See “Safety Instructions” manual supplied with this instruction manual.
• WARNING! Never use the machine without protective covers. Maintain protective covers in place
• For your personal safety, always connect the machine to a mains supply protected by a differential
and thermal cutout switch, in accordance with regulations on low-voltage wiring sitemaps.
• Do not perforate the machine casing, as this would destroy the protective insulation (use adhesive labels).
• Check the work area with a metal detector for hidden wires, gas and/or water pipes.
• Always unplug the machine before carrying out work on it.
• Always stop the machine by switching it off, not by unplugging it.
• WARNING! Before each use, inspect the plug and lead. Should they need replacing, have this done by an official service centre.
• Always keep the lead out of the machine's working area.
• Only plug the machine in when it is switched off. A protective face mask must be employed in any work producing harmful dust. Material containing asbestos must not be worked.
• When working with the machine, always wear safety goggles and ear protection. Other personal protection equipment such as dust masks, gloves, helmet and apron should be worn when necessary, along with non-slip safety footwear. If in doubt, use safety equipment.
• Never place hands or fingers in front of the saw when working.
• Make sure the vents are free when working with dust. If they require cleaning, first unplug the machine, do not use metal objects and avoid damaging internal parts.
• When the work is finished, the equipment should be switched off and the saw blade must be allowed to come to a complete stop before removing it from the cutting slot and depositing it (danger of kick-back).
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
This tool has been designed to saw aluminium, metals, wood, gasified concrete, cardboard-plaster plaques and similar.
BEFORE USING THIS TOOL
Before using the tool, make sure the mains voltage is correct: it must be the same as that on the specification label. Machines with 230V can also be connected to a 220-V mains supply.
Before plugging the tool in, always check that On/Off switch A is functioning normally and returns to Off when released.
INSTALLING THE SAW (Fig.3)
WARNING! Always make sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged before carrying out any work on the machine.
This jig saw is fitted with a “Quick fix” saw blade retainer. Saw blade installation is described below:
-  Remove the removable transparent protective cover, or raise transparent sliding protective cover G (Fig. 2)
-  Fully rotate retaining lever F and maintain it in this position.
-  Fully insert the saw blade, with the rear section supported in wheel guide H.
-  Release retaining lever F and press the saw blade until retaining lever F returns to its original position. Verify that the saw blade is correctly fixed in place.
-  Replace the removable transparent protective cover or lower transparent sliding protective cover G to its lowest position.
Important: It is essential to respect this instruction. PRECAUTION! The transparent protective cover prevents chips from flying out and also prevents serious injury to the operator (cut fingers and hands etc). if this does not fully cover the saw blade over the support base L.
WARNING! Never work without the transparent protective cover G in place or with this raised above the blade. It is advisable to lubricate periodically the contact area between the saw blade and support wheel (with a drop of oil) and the support axle of the wheel itself. Use only adhesive labels.
Pendulum mechanism adjustment
The   pendulum   mechanism   provides   blade   swivel
motion with improved cutting and higher work speed
per material.
To adjust with of swivel, use control E (Fig. 4). At 0
there is no swivel.
Pendular movement is increased from position 1 to
position 3.
Change of setting can be carried out with the machine
in motion.
Read the optimum operating conditions on machine
label O according to the specific material being worked.
STARTING THE TOOL
WARNING! Plug the machine in with the switch off.
Pressing On/Off switch A will turn the machine on and
releasing it will turn it off again.
For continuous operation, press On/Off switch A and
lock it in the operating position using button retainer B.
If the On/Off switch A is depressed and released once
again, the machine will stop.
Model FJ84
This is a single-speed model.
Electronic speed regulation (mod. FJ85 and FJ100VCE)
Adjustment control C is used to set the required speed (D in the case of FJ100VCE). A number 1 corresponds to the minimum speed and number 6 is the maximum obtainable by means of the electronic circuit. Once number 6 is exceeded the circuit switches off and the machine works at the maximum speed without regulation.
Electronic regulation can be carried out with the machine running.
The optimum number of strokes, depends on the material and particularly on the working conditions which can be achieved with practice. If working with a reduced number of strokes for a prolonged period of time, the machine should be left at a no-load speed from time to time for a period of 1 to 3 minutes to allow the motor to cool down.
Constant electronics (mod. FJ100VCE) The built-in module D permits:
-  Soft start.
-  The maintenance of a practically constant rated speed up to rated power. Regulator D is located in the upper section of the handle (Fig.6).
TYPES OF CUTS
WARNING! For safety reasons, the machine should always be unplugged from the mains before changing the disc or wheel.
Inclined cuts (Fig. 7)
WARNING! Only use the removable transparent protective cover .
To work with inclined cuts, loosen screw I, and incline the base according to the desired cutting angle, which is indicated on graduated scale P on the base itself. Firmly tighten screw I.

• Always use the machine with the auxiliary handle attached.
• Hold the machine firmly in both hands and in a stable position.
• Ensure that the part to be worked on is firmly secured before beginning any operation.
• When sawing metal, apply oil to the cutting point.
• Always use the correct saw blade for each type of material.
• Only use sharp saw blades which are in perfect condition. Cracked, bent or jagged saw blades should be immediately replaced.
• Do not force the saw feed which is adapted to the type and thickness of the material being worked.
• When sawing, follow the direction of the saw teeth: force being applied by lateral shifts, will only lead to breaking the blade.
• Beware of shavings that fly off. Hold the tool that so that sparks fly away from you or other people and inflammable materials.
• Do not exert excessive pressure on the base since this serves as a support and doing so will merely brake the saw feed.
• If thin sheets are to be cut, we recommend supporting them on a wooden base to avoid vibration of the sheet and accidents.
• Ensure that the base plate is totally supported by the work surface before beginning work.
• The cutting path must be free from any obstacles, both above and below.
• In no case turn the machine on with the saw blade in contact with the material, since this places undue strain on the blade. Insert the saw blade when the machine has reached the selected speed.The base should be placed as far forward as possible to allow for unlimited saw blade inclination (Fig. 7 pos. 1).
Vertical cuts
WARNING! Both transparent protective covers may be used in function of the work to be performed. The base is placed as far back as possible so that the blade is centered at pos. 2 (Fig. 7). To start working on wood on inner cuts the assembly car be beared through the front portion of the base plate ans slowly press until the saw blade has gone through the material to be processed. (Fig. 8). If there is no training or when working on other materials it is necessary to make a previous adjustment hole. To carry out this the pendulum mechanism should be at position 0.
PROTECTIVE COVERS FOR CLEAN CUTS
Anti-splinter plate K prevents the surface from splintering when wood is being sawed.
Position anti-splinter plate K as shown in Fig. 10 with the fittings downwards. Press anti-splinter plate K from above in order to insert it into base plate sliding skid J . WARNING! The anti-splinter plate cannot be used with certain types of saw blade (for example, jump saw blades).
Support base L which is fitted with a steel insert provides a high degree of stability and may be used without sliding skid J to work on metal or other non-delicate surfaces.
It is recommended that sliding skid J is used with material that is easily scratched in order not to damage delicate surfaces.
To install the sliding skid, clip it onto the front of support base L as shown in Fig. 11. Press the rear section upwards until it is locked in place as shown in Fig. 12.
DUST EXTRACTION
WARNING! Always make sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged before fitting or removing any dust extraction device.
Dust extraction keeps the workplace clean, prevents dust build-up in the air and facilitates waste elimination. CAUTION! During prolonged operations with wood or in professional applications with materials that produce harmful dust, a suitable external aspirator must be connected.
These jig saws are fitted with adapter M which can be coupled to a universal vacuum aspirator or other dust extraction device.
Installing the dust suction adapter To install adapter M, it should be inserted into support base L from the rear of the guide and pushed downwards until it locks in place (Fig. 9). It can be removed by pressing lower adapter tab N and pulling it backwards until it comes out of support base L.
WORKING INSTRUCTIONS
During sawing operations, base plate L must be completely supported on the surface. It is possible to cut wood without having made a previous drill hole, allowing the blade to slowly penetrate into the material with
the machine in operation. However, this does require a certain amount of experience.
Support the front edge of base plate L inclining the machine upwards and switch it on. Support the machine firmly against the work-piece and slowly lower it so that the saw blade penetrates the work-piece. Once the material has been cut through, place the machine into its normal operating position so that the base plate is seated on its entire surface area and continue the sawing operation according to requirements.
When sawing is completed, first switch the machine off and then remove the blade from the saw slot.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE
WARNING! Always unplug the machine before carrying out work on it.
• Saw blade inspection: Only sharp blades in perfect condition should be used. Cracked, bent or jagged saw blades should be immediately replaced.
• Inspect the mounting screws: Regularly inspect all the mounting screws and ensure they are firmly tightened. Should any screw be loose, tighten it immediately. Failure to do so could put you at serious risk.
• Motor maintenance: Always take the greatest care over this and make sure that the motor winding is not damaged and/or becomes wet with oil or water.
• Always keep the vents clean and free of obstruction.
• Clean the machine thoroughly after each use. Blast the motor regularly with compressed air.
• The saw blade retaining lever (“Quick Fix” systems) must be regularly cleaned, especially when sawing material which produces large amounts of dust. This will ensure correct retaining lever operation.
• The saw blade guide should be lubricated now and again with a drop of oil and, at the same time, checked for wear. If it is worn, after prolonged use, it should be replaced at the Freud Technical Assistance Centre.
• Check that the mains lead is in good condition. If it is not, take it to an Official Service Centre to have it replaced.
• Brush replacement: The brushes should be replaced after 150-200 hours use or when they are less than 10 mm long. Have this done by an Official Service Centre. We recommend that on every other change of brushes, you take the machine to one of our Official Service Centres for general cleaning and oiling.
• Use only Freud accessories and spares. The parts the changing of which is not covered in this instruction manual, should be replaced in a Freud Official Service Centre (See Warranty/Official Service Centre address leaflet).
