SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• See “Safety instructions” enclosed manual, supplied together with this instruction manual.

• Warning! When drilling in amianthus/asbestos and/or silica stone, the dust produced is extremely harmful to your health. Wear protection against inhalation of this dust, in compliance with current regulations on accident prevention. Follow the insurance company’s safety instructions regarding the responsibility of employees.

• For your personal safety, always connect the machine to a mains supply by a differential and thermal cut-out switch, in accordance with regulations on low-voltage wiring sitemaps.

• Do not perforate the machine casing, as this would destroy the protective insulation (use adhesive labels).

• Always unplug the machine before doing any work on it.

• Warning! Before each use, inspect the plug and lead. Should they need replacing, have this done by an official service centre. Only plug the machine in when it is switched off.

• Always keep the lead out of the machine’s working area.

• Only plug the machine in when it is switched off.

• Do not allow the machine to get wet, nor should it be used in wet environments.

• When using the machine, always wear safety goggles, gloves and non-slip footwear, and it is advisable to wear ear protection.

• Do not touch the bit when during or immediately after working, as it becomes very hot and can cause serious burns.

• Hold the machine firmly by the handle and the auxiliary handle, otherwise the recoil produced could cause the machine to work imprecisely or even dangerously.

• Always use the auxiliary handle.

• Never attempt to clean off dust or shavings resulting from drilling when the machine is operating.

• Do not use diamond core bits.

• When drilling walls, ceilings or floors, take care to avoid electric wires and gas or water pipes.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

A pneumatic percussion unit generates the power necessary for hammer drilling or chiselling on masonry. Just when we hit a conventional chisel with a hammer, a free piston strikes the bit or chisel, which can move lengthways, through an intermediate part. This free piston is driven by a second piston activated by an electric motor through an air cushion. This electro-pneumatic principle offers great percussion elasticity and work free from recoil.Unlike a normal hammer drill, the drilling capacity does not depend on the pressure exerted on the machine.

Use of the machine:

FCH models can be used for percussion drilling and chiselling in stone. FDH models can be used for chiselling in stone.Any use differing from the above mentioned is strictly forbidden. Additional features of the electro-pneumatic hammer:

- The machine is equipped with a safety clutch or mechanism, which operates when a bit seizes up, protecting the user and the machine’s electro-mechanical parts. The clutch is released automatically. (FCH Models).

- Warning! This machine must not be used with hole saws, core bits, diamond bits, etc., as they tend to jam in the hole easily. This would cause the safety clutch to trip out too often. (FCH Models).Toolholder B for hammer drilling with SDS-max® mount for using tools with SDS-max® shanks. (FCH Models).

- Electronic speed control of the axle H enables us to: use smaller bits with no danger of them breaking, drill light and fragile materials without shattering them and control the tool perfectly for precision chiselling. (VCE Models).

- When we switch on the machine its gentle acceleration allows smooth start up, avoiding bit veering from the correct position. It also reduces the torque transmitted to the gear, which is transmitted to the user when the hammer is activated with the bit in an existing hole. (VCE Models).

- Adjustable auxiliary handle C.

BEFORE USING THIS TOOL

Warning! Before carrying out any work, check, for instance, using a metal detector that there are no electric wires or gas or water pipes under the surfaces you wish to work on.Make sure the mains voltage is correct: it must be the same as that on the specification label. Machines with 230-V can also be connected to a 220-V mains supply. To turn the machine on, press the ON/OFF switch I and keep it pressed down. When the ON/OFF switch is released, the machine stops.

1. Speed adjustments. Constant electronic performance (only in VCE models).

The control electronics allow continuous pre-setting of the revolutions and impact frequency to adapt the machine to the type of material to be worked on. Adjustment is made using the speed adjustment switch H, which has 6 positions to regulate the speed. The higher the number, the greater the speed and impact energy. The range of settings from “1” (low power) to “6” (full power) makes the tool very flexible and adaptable to different applications. The constant speed control maintains the pre-set number of revolutions and impact frequency.

2. Mode selection switch (see fig. 2)

Warning!: This switch E should only be activated with the machine off.Press the release button D on the mode selection switch E, and turn the latter to the required setting:

I7r" Hammer only (blocked): for hollowing out groo-^ ves, (light) scraping, chiselling and wrecking. C> Й Hammer drilling (simultaneous rotation and U 8 percussion): for drilling in concrete and masonry work. (Only FCH models). Ы Neutral position (machine inactive).

3.- Fitting and removing tools (SDS-max®).

The dustproof hood A prevents the entry of dust during operation. When fitting tools, take care not to scratch the dustproof hood A.

Fitting the tool (see fig.4.)

1. Clean and slightly lubricate the tool before fitting.

2. Pull back the bit holder ring B and fit the clean tool in the tool-holder, turning until in place.

3. Release the bit holder ring.

4. Pull the tool to ensure it is blocked.

To remove the tool (see fig.4).

Push back the bit holder ring B on the toolholder, and

remove the bit.

4. Auxiliary handle.

WARNING: For safety reasons, the hammer should only be used with the auxiliary handle C securely fitted. Ensure that it is firmly fitted before use. Fitting in forward position.

1. Unscrew the auxiliary handle C .

2. Insert the clamp until K in the clamp collar J.

3. Screw the handle back on firmly C.

5. Safety clutch (only FCH models).

Should the drill tool seize up or become jammed, the drilling rotation stops. Due to the resulting forces, hold the machine firmly in both hands, taking care to maintain it in a stable position.

6. Built-in dust guard.

The toolholder has a dustproof hood A. This prevents dust entering the toolholder during work. The dust guard should be checked when the brushes are being changed by the service centre, and replaced if necessary.

OPERATING MODES

Hammer drill mode (only in FCH models)

For drilling in concrete, cement, etc.,

1. Press the release button E.

2. Set the selector switch D to IT 8. Use bits with tungsten carbide tips.

Place the bit where you wish to make the hole, then press the trigger. Do not force the tool. You will obtain better results by applying only light pressure. Hold the tool in place so that it does not move from the hole. Should the hole become blocked with shavings or other particles, do not apply greater pressure. Rather use the tool on the minimum setting, and then partially remove the bit from the hole. If you repeat this operation a few times the hole will come clean.

WARNING: When the bit begins to penetrate concrete or comes up against the reinforcement rods in the concrete, the tool may react dangerously. Make sure you keep your balance by distributing your weight evenly and keeping your feet in a safe position whilst holding the tool firmly in both hands to avoid dangerous reactions.

Hammer only.

For chipping, descaling or wrecking,

1. Press the release button D.

2. Set the mode selection switch E to T i. Use a chipping tool, cold chisel, descaler, etc.

NOISE AND VIBRATION

The machine’s noise and vibration levels, measured in compliance with EN50144, usually reach: Acoustic pressure = 96 dB(A) Sound-power level = 109 dB(A)

Use ear protection!

Vibration acceleration = 14 m/s2

MAINTENANCE AND CARE

WARNING-Always unplug the machine before carrying out work on it.

- When you notice a decrease in hammer output, take the machine to an Official Service Centre.

- Tool inspection: Using a blunt cutting tool leads to less efficient work and could damage the motor, therefore cutting tools should be sharpened or replaced as soon as any wear is noticed. Daily: Clean the tool holder.

- Inspect the mounting screws: Regularly inspect all the mounting screws and ensure they are firmly tightened. Should any screw be loose, tighten it immediately. Failure to do so could put you at serious risk.

- Motor maintenance: Take the utmost care to ensure that the motor winding is not damaged and does not become damp with oil or water.

- Brush replacement: The brushes disconnect automatically and should be replaced after 150 - 200 hours use or when they are less than 10 mm long. Have them replaced by an Official Service Centre.

- Clean the machine thoroughly after each use with a blast of dry air.

- The vents of the machine should be kept clear at all times.

- Check that the mains lead is in good condition. If it is not, take it to an Official Service Centre to have it replaced.

- Use only Freud accessories and spares. The parts the changing of which is not covered in this instruction manual, should be replaced in a Freud Official Service Centre (See Warranty Official Service address leaflet) .
