The cabinet door project

The  project  we  propose  entails the construction of a cabinet door measuring 450 x 600 x 30 mm with douglas wood. For the realization of this project prepare some perfectly sized  panels  with  the  following measurements.  for the RAISED PANEL:

  • A.  6 panels 58 x 498 x 24 mm;
    for the TRANSOMS:
  • B. 2 panels 350 x 60 x 30 mm;
    for the JAMBS:
  • C. 2 panels 60 x 600 x 30 mm;
    For wood machining use

the following  tools:
cod. TW20M BF3;
cod. TPSEM BB3;
cod. TD52M HB3.

A. RAISED PANEL

- FIRST PHASE -

JOINING ONE SIDE

To prepare the inner raised panel, take the 6,58 x 498 x 24 mm pieces. With the TW20M BF3 finger-joint cutterhead on the spindlemoulder, mould 5 of the 6 pieces on one side only, long grain.

A.  RAISED PANEL

- SECOND PHASE -

JOINING TWO SIDES

Now insert the 2,5 mm spacer, supplied with the TW20M BF3 fingerjoint cutterhead. Take 4 of the previously worked panels and carry out the second moulding on the opposite side, long grain. Now take the unworked panel and carry out a single moulding on one side, along the grain.

A.  RAISED PANEL

- THIRD PHASE -

ASSEMBLY

Assemble and glue the panels holding them together with a clamp. In order to obtain a

better grip insure that at the moment of joining, the grain of each panel is facing the pposite direction.

B. TRANSOMS

- FIRST PHASE -

TENONING

For the realization of the transoms use the Freud multiprofile cutterhead TPSEM BB3, B3, CB3.

Work the short side of two of the 350 x 60 x 30 mm panels as illustrated in Fig. 4.

B. TRANSOMS

- SECOND PHASE -

TENONING

As illustrated in Fig. 5, complete the same operation on the other short side of the two panels, making sure you always place them the same way up on the work surface.

B. TRANSOMS

- THIRD PHASE -

PROFILING

Lower the cutterhead set so as the blades spine may coincide with the tenon (Fig. 6).  Carry out the profiling along the entire length of the two transoms (on one of the length sides as illustrated).

C.  JAMBS

PROFILING

Prepare two 600 x 60 x 30 mm panels.

Always maintaining the cutterhead set at the same height, carry out the profiling of one length side of each jamb, as illustrated in Fig. 7.

We now have our transoms and jambs.

If you have correctly followed the previous instructions you will have obtained the same results as illustrated in Fig. 8.

A.  INNER RAISED PANELS

- FIRST PHASE -

PROFILING

Position item code TD52M HB3 on the spindle moulder.

Work the two previously prepared panels on all sides (steps 1 - 2 - 3), making sure that you first machine the two sides along the grain.

Fig. 10 shows the final piece obtained by following these simple instuctions.a
